February 17

Thank You, Central Florida Employment Council!

Many thanks to all the attendees who made it to the “2016 Employment Law Update for Human Resources Professionals,” on February 9 here in Orlando, FL!

I was able to cover many of the issues associated with returns from medical leaves, extended leave policies and reasonable accommodation issues with respect to FMLA and Workers’Compensation. Hopefully, this is something that will be of assistance to our HR professionals as these issues arise in the workplace.

2016 New Year’s Resolution: Review that Old Employee Handbook

Now is a good time to commit to a page-by-page review of the Employee Handbook. It is often the primary source of work rules, employee culture and legal compliance. What may have been good practice just a few years back, may now be a “red flag” in the event of audit or employee complaint.

I recommend reviewing the Employee Handbook every 12 to 18 months to ensure this important Company document provides proper guidance and updates on key workplace issues.

Like an oil change for your car, a regular review of the Employee Handbook is simply good maintenance practice to keep the Company headed in the right direction.
